► TAKE PRECAUTIONS: No proper warning signs, lifeguards at most Raigad beaches
A lot of tourists are visiting beaches like Kihim, Akshi, Nagaon and Revdanda in Raigad but their safety is a matter of concern, as there are no proper warnings or official lifeguards.
The Raigad district disaster management authority stated that they will look into these safety concerns but, at present, they don't have sufficient funds to post lifeguards at various beaches.
"The absence of lifeguards on tourist spots like beaches is a concern," said an activist, Mangesh Mali.
Dilip Jog, an Alibaug-based social activist, said that the district administration seems to have not learnt any lesson from the recent Murud beach tragedy.
"Thousands of tourists head for the beaches during monsoon and venture into the sea where strong water current poses a threat. Revelers take selfies, perched on rocks, which is dangerous. But the authorities are yet to take action," he added.
A stall owner at Kihim beach, Avinash Pawar, said that the warning signboard can't be seen properly.
"Nobody guards the beach and tourists venture into the sea without any precautions, risking their lives," he added.
Sagar Phatak, Raigad disaster management head, said that they do not have money for such measures.
"The revelers venture into the sea, ignoring the warning signs and caution of local people," he added.
He did not have a satisfactory answer for not deploying lifeguards on the beaches.
